London-based, German artist Ana Viktoria Dzinic presents her solo exhibition, Repetitive, at Nicoletti, exploring the power of repetition in contemporary communication and image production. The exhibition features photographic prints and sculptural installations that investigate how subjectivity is shaped by modern fabrication, circulation, and consumption of images.

The exhibition opens with Even the most critical bees stop and smell the roses, an installation featuring a maquette of Nicoletti’s gallery space. This piece includes miniature photographs from Dzinic’s series Propaganda and Decoration (2022–), along with replicas of objects from her previous exhibition Regieanweisungen. Accompanied by a soundtrack of piano covers played on pre-2007 devices, this work sets the stage for her examination of the original versus the copy.

Dzinic’s images, often taken with her phone, capture everyday scenes from nature to technology, personal to commercial. These include snapshots of flowers, graffitied bus stops, and intimate moments with friends, alongside more abstract images like an entanglement of cables from the Balenciaga Blue show. Her editing transforms these low-resolution files into expandable vectors, transferred onto velvet and mounted on canvas, blending mechanical austerity with textile sensuality.

Inspired by Vilèm Flusser’s philosophy on communication technology and Jacques Derrida’s ideas on repetition, Dzinic challenges the concepts of origin and authenticity. Repetitive invites viewers to consider how images become viral, collective symbols, or markers of obsolescence, questioning the so-called ‘neurosis of authenticity’ through successive acts of copying and repetition.
Repetitive runs at Nicoletti, showcasing Dzinic’s innovative approach to contemporary art and her critical engagement with the processes that shape our visual culture.
